Pfizer Vaccine for Children 5 to 11 Now Available at No Cost at Valle del Sol

PHOENIX (November 16, 2021) – Earlier this month the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) announced its recommendation for children ages 5 to 11 to receive the Pfizer vaccine to combat the Covid-19 virus. This is welcomed news for many families who have been patiently waiting to have their children vaccinated as we start to slowly return to our pre-pandemic lifestyles and as the holiday season approaches.

“The Pfizer vaccine for children has undergone rigorous testing to find the correct dose for children and to ensure its effectiveness. The vaccine for children is safe and it’s a vital tool to help us end the pandemic. I encourage families to make an appointment at Valle del Sol, or with their provider, to get the vaccine and ensure that the younger members of our families are also protected,” said Dr. Duane Wooten, pediatrician at Valle del Sol.

The Pfizer trial enrolled nearly 2,300 participants and helped determine that children 5-11 should receive a third of the dosage given to those ages 12 and older. Children will also need two doses of the vaccine administered 21 days apart. Results from the Pfizer trials show that the vaccine is safe for children and gives them a robust antibody response to the Covid-19 virus.

Some children who receive the vaccine can expect side effects that may include sore arms, fatigue, and other mild side effects. Families who would like to have their children vaccinated at Valle del Sol can schedule an appointment by calling (602) 258-6797 or by visiting www.valledelsol.com. Health insurance is not required to receive the vaccine and it is administered at no cost to families.

Additionally, Valle del Sol also has vaccines available for adults who have yet to receive their vaccine against Covid-19 or for those who qualify to receive a booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine. Valle del Sol also has the flu vaccine available, which can be administered during the same appointment as a Covid-19 vaccine.

Valle del Sol will be hosting numerous community events through its mobile health unit to provide equitable and culturally appropriate access to vaccine. Upcoming details can be found on the events calendar at www.valledelsol.com.
