Phoenix Families Now Have More Options to Access Resources

PHOENIX – Valle del Sol now offers families more options when it comes to accessing resources to help them stay healthy. As of August 1, community members can now receive help applying for the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) program at Valle del Sol’s clinic located at 7th Street and Indian School Road.

WIC is a federal program that provides grants to states in support of supplemental foods, health care referrals, and nutrition education for low-income families. People who qualify are those who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or non-breastfeeding postpartum, as well as infants and children up to age five who may be facing nutritional risks. WIC is offered at no cost to families. People who participate in other benefits programs, such as SNAP, Medicaid, or TANF, automatically meets the income eligibility requirement for WIC.

“The Women, Infants, and Children program is instrumental to help families improve their health and nutrition,” said Ivan Zacarias, WIC Director and Dietitian at Valle del Sol. “By providing WIC services, Valle del Sol ensures that our patients have access to additional services, allowing families to stay on course with healthier nutrition outcomes,” Zacarias added.

Through the WIC program, families can access nutrition education and breastfeeding support services, supplemental nutritious foods, and referrals to health and social services. By using the WIC support services, families become nutritionally informed and confident that their children are healthy and thriving.
