Valle del Sol Condemns Action of Phoenix City Council to Criminalize Medical Service in Parks

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

May 7, 2026

Phoenix, AZ – Valle del Sol unequivocally condemns the Phoenix City Council’s passage of Ordinance G-7514 by a vote of 6-3, which criminalizes the provision of medical care and basic services to individuals in city parks.

Valle del Sol believes our neighbors experiencing homelessness deserve safe, stable housing and access to compassionate, comprehensive healthcare -- not policies that punish those providing lifesaving support. This ordinance places healthcare workers, outreach teams, and human service providers at risk simply for fulfilling their mission to serve people in need.

“I am deeply disappointed in today’s vote by the Council,” said Valle del Sol CEO Mike Renaud. “The data clearly shows that when we meet people where they are -- especially Phoenix’s most vulnerable residents experiencing homelessness -- we save lives. This ordinance will not solve homelessness or move more people into housing. Instead, it creates barriers for healthcare workers, human service providers, and Good Samaritans trying to deliver compassionate, lifesaving care.”

Valle del Sol is actively exploring all available options to ensure our services continue uninterrupted despite the passage of this ordinance.
