Phoenix, AZ — Valle del Sol has been awarded an $850,000 first-year grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) to launch Valle Recovery Network: A Comprehensive Recovery Center, a new initiative designed to expand access to evidence-based substance use disorder treatment and recovery services for adults throughout Maricopa County.
Valle del Sol is one of only four organizations nationwide selected for funding through SAMHSA's FY2026 Comprehensive Opioid Recovery Centers program. The three-year award will provide up to $850,000 annually, contingent on continued federal funding and program performance.
Through Valle Recovery Network, Valle del Sol will provide comprehensive treatment and recovery services to uninsured and underinsured adults experiencing opioid use disorder and other substance use disorders. The program will connect people with timely treatment, medications for substance use disorders, behavioral health services, peer recovery support and other resources that can help people build stable, healthy lives in recovery.
"At Valle del Sol, we believe recovery should not depend on someone's income, insurance status or ability to navigate a complicated health care system," said Mike Renaud, President and CEO of Valle del Sol. "This investment will allow us to build on the work we've already been doing to make treatment more accessible and create a more connected path to recovery for people and families across Maricopa County. We are proud to be one of only four organizations in the country selected for this funding, and we are ready to put it to work in our community."
"Substance use disorder is a complex health condition, and recovery looks different for every person," said Dr. Krista LaBruzzo, Addiction Medicine Physician at Valle del Sol. "Our goal is to meet people where they are, provide evidence-based treatment without unnecessary barriers and support the whole person beyond the initial treatment encounter. This grant gives us an opportunity to strengthen that continuum of care and help more people access the treatment and recovery support they need."
The need for expanded access to treatment remains significant across Maricopa County. The county recorded approximately 1,500 resident overdose deaths in 2024, with fentanyl involved in 59% of deaths and methamphetamine involved in 67%.
Valle Recovery Network will also connect participants with recovery supports that extend beyond clinical treatment. Through a partnership with Choice Health Integrated, the program will provide access to medication-permitting recovery housing, helping participants address the broader social and economic factors that can affect long-term recovery.
"Recovery does not end when someone leaves a doctor's office," Dr. LaBruzzo said. "People need support, stability and connection as they continue through recovery. By bringing medical treatment, behavioral health care, peer support and recovery resources together, we can create a stronger system of care for the people we serve."
The award is part of nearly $250 million in grants announced by SAMHSA in September 2026 to expand addiction treatment, overdose prevention, mental health services and recovery support across the country. SAMHSA's Comprehensive Opioid Recovery Centers program specifically supports the development of centers that provide a full continuum of evidence-based substance use disorder prevention, treatment and recovery services and ensure access to medications for treatment.
Valle Recovery Network will operate as part of Valle del Sol's broader commitment to providing accessible, integrated health and human services to communities throughout Arizona.
